Lakshmi Puja is one of the important rituals performed during the festival of Diwali. Lakshmi Puja is entirely devoted to Goddess Lakshmi and celebrated on the day of Amavasya. Many of us are not aware about the way of doing puja so here is a simple guide to perform Lakshmi Puja:
Step 1: Clean your house properly. Sprinkle Gangajal to purify the house.
Step 2: Decide a place to perform a puja and then spread a clean cloth and keep a handful of rice in the center.
Step 3: Place the Kalash in the middle and fill it with 75% of water.Put one supari, one marigold flower, a coin and some rice in the Kalash.
Step 4: Now arrange mango leaves around the opening of the Kalash in circular form.
Step 5: Place a small thaali on the kalash & make a small mountain of rice grains.
Step 6: On the thaali, draw a lotus with turmeric powder and place the idol or small photograph of Goddess Lakshmi. Place some coins on thaali.
Step 7: On the right of Kalash, place the idol of Lord Ganesha. Do a tilak of Haldi & Kumkum on Lord Ganesha & put some rice.
Step 8: Sprinkle some water on all puja items. Light diya and start puja with applying Haldi,Kumkum and flowers on the Kalash.
Step 9: Recite Diwali puja mantra of Goddess Lakshmi.
Namosthesthu Maha Maye,
Shree padee, sura poojithe,
Shanka, Chakra, Gadha hasthe,
Maha Lakshmi Namosthuthe
Step 10: Offer the flower and rice to the Goddess after the prayer.
Step 11: Take out the idol of Goddess Lakshmi and place it on a Thaali. Clean the idol with water, then with milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar. Then clean the idol again with water & place it back on Kalash.
Step 12: Now apply haldi and kumkum along with rice to the idol. Place the garland cotton beads around the neck of the Goddess. Place some marigold flower and some Bel leaves. Burn few agarbatti and dhoop.
Step 13: Pour some puffed rice, coriander seeds and cumin seeds over the idol. Place some Sweets, Fruits and money or gold ornaments in front of it.
Step 14: Perform aarti of Goddess Lakshmi.
Lakshmi Puja during Vrishabha Lagna is the most suitable time for those who stay in family, married, having kids, middle class, lower class, rural folks, farmers, salaried people and businessmen engaged in all sorts of work. This is the most significant Muhurta for Lakshmi Puja on Diwali.
