Kamdev- The Indian Cupid

Hindu God of love and sexuality, Kamdev is known as the Indian Cupid. Kamadeva was the son of Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi under their incarnations as Lord Krishna and Rukmini. He is often compared with the Eros of Greeks and cupid(little angels with bow and arrow) from the west. He is also believed to be the son of the planets that symbolize lusty desires.  Lord Kamdev was married to devi Rati, the Goddess of love. Kama means sensuous love, wish , desire and longing for someone and deva means heavenly divine. In the Atharva-Veda, the word Kama has been described as desire and not sexual enjoyment.

There are some of the facts that no one knows about the Kama devta. Even though he is not worshipped on a larger scale, but the legends or Hindu relics describe his appearance as that of a young, handsome man who rides on a parrot and carries a bow and arrow where the bow is made up of Sugarcane with a cord of honeybees, and arrows made up of jasmine, ashoka flowers, white and blue lotus flowers.

The Mantra that signifies as the love weapon of Kama devta, is the “Kleem Mantra” which is said to be a very powerful weapon in order to get Love in return from the opposite gender. Regular chanting of the mantra and praying to Lord Kamdev helps in achieving greater love goals and it also helps in being aware of your partner’s emotional needs and appreciating them. Even dancers are used to chant this mantra in order to get charm and grace so that they can greatly entertain their audience and gather appreciation.
